Boy & Girl of the Year
Meet 2012 Boy & Girl of the Year
The Boy & Girl of the Year are local children battling blood cancers who serve as motivation and inspiration to Man & Woman of the Year candidates in their competition to raise funds and win the titles.
Boy of the Year
Aaron
Aaron is our 2012 Boy of the Year and is 7 years old. At 8 months old he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, more commonly called AML. He was treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital and needed a blood marrow transplant in order to survive. His big brother Alec (2 at the time) was a PERFECT match for Aaron and since his transplant he has been in remission for over 5 years. Aaron?s mother, Lisa, calls both boys heroes and says they are the bravest boys she knows!
Girl of the Year
Kiley
Kiley, an athletic, ambitious and talented sixth grader was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in August 2009. Kiley showed great strength when she went into surgery on August 12, 2009. She had a port-a-cath inserted in her chest through which she received her first round of chemotherapy. Kiley completed the intense six month introduction receiving six times the amount of medication given to adults while missing only one scheduled treatment. By spring 2010, she was back on the soccer field starting for an elite soccer team that went on to win the Central Maryland Soccer Association spring championship. Kiley recently finished her last round of treatment and is doing great. Kiley?s success is the result of the hard work of dedicated and caring individuals who have devoted their lives to defeating leukemia.
