TEAM ZOMBIE LEADER

Good Deeds One Bite at a Time

Jun 08, 2016
by Todd Zavorskas

You have arrived on my Team Zombie Leader page because after 23 years of fundraising on behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Connecticut Westchester Hudson Valley (CTWHV) Chapter, I am both honored and proud to announce that I am a 2016 Man of the Year Candidate. On June 11, 2016, at 6:00 p.m., LLS will be hosting its Annual Man & Woman of the Year (MWOY) Gala held at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich, CT, to help eradicate blood cancers once and for all.

I am dreaming big to compete with the corporate, hedge fund, & banker candidates that I will be going against in a 10-week fundraising sprint from March 31, 2016 to June 11, 2016. Being a geek, a former middle school science teacher, an avid sports fan, a Comic Con vendor, a Cosplayer, and an autograph and memorabilia collector, I am asking friends and talent in the sports, entertainment and comic book communities to assist me in raising both awareness and donations for LLS. If you love original comic book art, please visit our 10-week auction, http://www.facebook.com/CALLauction or http://www.ebay.com/usr/zteam.

For the past 23 years, I have been actively involved in fundraising for LLS. During this time in Connecticut, I coordinated both Coleytown Middle School and North Haven Middle School to raise over $135,000 for the charity through grade 8 vs. staff faculty basketball games. Starting two years ago, I solicited donations to simply give directly to LLS for their biggest CT fundraiser, The Man & Woman of the Year Gala as I founded my upstart, Zombie Leader, http://www.zombieleader.com. Now, I am a LLS Man of the Year Candidate, and Team Zombie Leader is looking to take a bite out of blood cancer. Our motto is "Good Deeds One Bite at a Time" after all.

This cause is dear to me because my grandmother, Anne Zavorskas, passed away several years ago from Hodgkin’s disease--a form of leukemia. Also, many years ago, my mentor’s son, Ryan Hurley, had a recurrence of leukemia, which he was first diagnosed with at the age of three. He died at the age of 19. Unfortunately, leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer in children under the age of 20. These instances led me to my desire to donate time and money to this particular charity. All of my hard work and dedication to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s CTWHV Chapter has earned me their 2000 prestigious "Unsung Hero" Award as well as the 2005 Mid-Fairfield County American Red Cross "Unsung Hero" award for my charitable work, both of which I deeply appreciate.

In the past, donated items included autographs, memorabilia, and merchandise that have encompassed the whole spectrum of entertainment, sports, and family fun. Already this year, the following have made donated to my campaign: Tiger Woods Foundation/Geico National PGA, New York Yankees, Coach Mike Krzyzewski, Heroes & Villains Fan Fest, Marvel Comics, Shaquille O'Neal, Charlie Adlard, New York Comic Con, NHL, Michael Rooker, Leah Cairns, ESPN, Sesame Street, Tim Allen, Walker Stalker Con & Stephen Amell.

Besides cash donations or gifts-in-kind, I am kindly requesting donations of signed pictures, original artwork/sketches, memorabilia, toys, or other merchandise to help eradicate blood cancer. Can I count on you this year? I hope so. My goal is to raise $20,000 through the most fun and unconventional campaign LLS has ever seen. Events planned include Brian O'Halloran Stand-up, CLERKS CUTS, Superhero/Princess BBQ, Cosplay Prom, Zom-BQ, Cosplay Calendars, Comic Art Showcase/Auctions, Fashion Show, Escape New Haven,  & Bridgeport Soundtigers.   If you need to verify any of the above information you can do so at toddzavorskas@sbcglobal.net. If you would like to contact LLS directly to verify my MOY candidacy and/or this request, please contact Ellen O’Connor, LLS Campaign Specialist, at ellen.oconnor@lls.org. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration, Todd Zavorskas aka Zombie Leader.
