Dear Family, Friends and Colleagues,

As long as I can remember cancer has always played a part in my life. My grandfather and grandmother deeply influenced the person I have become today. Unfortunately, blood cancer shortened the time they had on this earth to spend with their family, loved ones, and friends, and their death in my life-line was at an age where it impacted me profoundly. I have been nominated by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) for their Man & Woman of the Year campaign and want to ask for your support.

I made this decision based on a simple yet profound concept: “I am looking towards the future with a nod to the past.” Recently I met the little boy pictured on the flyer enclosed. His name is Matthew Hauser. Matthew is an ambassador for LLS and he is the future. I’ve been given the opportunity to make a very real difference in Matthew’s life and the lives of countless other patients and their families. I’ve seen the results of not only blood cancer breakthroughs, but breakthroughs in cancer treatments through the research that LLS funds. I appreciate the importance of an organization that devotes almost $.80 for every dollar raised to research.

The drugs and treatments Matthew uses today, didn't even exist a few years ago, or were still in development. Research funding has accelerated those drugs and treatments to market, thus saving more lives. If the funding had been around when my grandparents were first diagnosed, they may still have been alive today. HELP me to ensure other young children, as well as adults, have a better shot, by assisting me in driving the funding for more and faster research! Matthew was diagnosed at 2 ½ and is a shining example of innovative hematology research. I want to ensure that this little boy lives a long, healthy, and joyous life.

I cherish the memories I have of my grandparents, and it gives me comfort knowing how proud they would be of this initiative. I want to keep their memory alive and honor them. I plan to attach their names to one of LLS’ thirteen blood cancer specific research grants. This unique incentive was the basis of forming my fundraising goal: $50K. Your support will have immediate and far-reaching effects now and into the future.

With gratitude, love and deep appreciation,

Kelly A. Meerbott

Welcome to my Man & Woman of the Year home page!

Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. Every dollar I raise counts as one vote and the candidate who gets the most votes /raises the most money is named the Man or Woman of the Year.

Thanks to your support, my efforts, will help fund the therapies and treatments and help save lives today.

LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled.

And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. They're even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. LLS funded drugs like Gleevec, Sprycel, Arinza, Tasigna and Zolinza are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.

We really are changing the face of blood cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Please visit my Web site often and bring friends who would also like to donate!

On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support! For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org

We are sorry donations are no longer being accepted for this participant for this event.
