It is my privilege to be nominated as a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2014 Man & Woman of the Year. As a nominee, I have been tasked with raising funds for this organization on a significant scale. During this ambitious 10-week fundraiser, I have assembled a dedicated team that is committed to one purpose: fighting blood cancers. I recently became involved with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through my friend and inspiration Lauraine Frank. At 30, she has been diagnosed with lymphoma four times and is currently in remission. Through it all, she has served as a testament to resiliency and maintaining a positive outlook on life. Her treatment modalities are a direct result of the advancements supported by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society researchers. I have since discovered how many people around me have been affected by a blood cancer. Working with this organization, I have gained an insight into how effective The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is with the funds entrusted to them. Over 78% of every dollar is used to fund research to find cures, and provide services and support for patients and families fighting blood cancer. This campaign is in honor of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Boy and Girl of the Year, Robert and Callie, both of whom have recovered from their battle with Leukemia.
I have witnessed first-hand the debilitating effects that leukemia, lymphoma, Non-Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma can have on those who suffer from these illnesses, and on the friends and family who care for and nurture their loved ones. Unfortunately, leukemia causes more deaths amongst children than any other cancer, but I am encouraged by the amazing advancements being made and the unbelievable increase in survival rates.
More than one million Americans are living with blood cancers and every charitable dollar you contribute makes a difference. During this campaign from April 2nd to June 14th, the 2014 Man and Women of the year class is working towards the goal of raising $625,000. These funds go directly to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in support of its longstanding mission to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. While this goal may seem ambitious, with the support of generous, community-minded donors like you, anything is possible.
Please Donate. With your support of a tax-deductible contribution, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society can continue funding critical research in the fight against blood cancers as well as provide outstanding patient services.
With my most sincere appreciation,
