To my dear friends, family, and all those supporting this amazing cause,
I have been given an opportunity to help others and I cannot do it without the support of my family and friends.
Each year, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its National Man & Woman of the Year fundraising campaign, and I am honored to be nominated this year as a 2016 Woman of the Year candidate. I am writing today to ask for your support of my campaign and LLS’s mission in its efforts to find cures for blood cancers and to assist patients and families as they battle leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease or myeloma.
I am participating in honor of the many people I know affected by blood cancers, but specifically for my friend, Katherine, who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia while 22 weeks pregnant with her first child. I am overjoyed to say she has won her battle and is now the mother of a beautiful and healthy baby boy, Michael. This was in large part due to her strength as well as the amazing treatment she was able to receive thanks to research and advancements in the field. Read more about her story here.
From March 31st to June 11th, my team’s goal is to raise over $100,000! Yes, you read that correctly, more than $100,000 in 10 weeks, which will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission. If we achieve our goal, we can link our team to a specific LLS-funded research project to honor our efforts.
These research projects fund critical advancements that are changing the face of blood cancers. We were surprised to learn that of the 39 new cancer-fighting drugs approved by the F.D.A. in the past 10 years, 19 of them were initially developed for blood cancers and many had funding from LLS. Of those 19, ALL of them show promise for treating other cancers and diseases including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers, Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and MS.
Please consider making a tax deductible contribution to our campaign. Then, we’d like to ask you to reach out to at least one other person you know and ask them to do the same. I have found that so many of the people I talk with about my team’s efforts have a connection to blood cancer and want to get involved.
Thank you in advance for supporting this incredible cause. I am certain my friends and family are the most generous and strongest among any of the candidates this year and I look forward to letting you know that my campaign has reached its goal!
