by Bethany Wilcoxon

We're proud to partner with Bianchi Boys Pizza & Pasta for a special fundraiser! Dine in or place a to go or delivery order, note that it's part of the campaign, and we'll get 20% of the proceeds. A night off from cooking and helping end cancer? It sounds like a win-win to us!

Unite to Fight

by Bethany Wilcoxon

I am humbled by your generosity in the first 24 hours of the campaign; we're off to a fantastic start, and, after attending the campaign kickoff with all of the other candidates last night, my team and I couldn't be more motivated to help end cancer. We met Wade, this year's Boy of the Year who was diagnosed with leukemia last April. We saw how well Joe, Lilly, and other blood cancer survivors are doing, thanks in part to organizations like The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

As we heard stories of how the next ten weeks of this campaign will be trying at times, I couldn't help but think to myself that it is nothing next to what so many people have gone through fighting for their lives. With that, let's unite to fight!

Please join us for our campaign kickoff at The Exchange at Court Center, 216 Court Avenue in Des Moines. We'll have a happy hour event from 4 to 8 pm, including a 50/50 raffle, pizza, and drink specials to support the cause!

Welcome to my Woman of the Year campaign!

Dear family & friends,

I am excited to announce that I’ve been nominated as a candidate for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Woman of the Year campaign. Each candidate raises funds for blood cancer in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year. Starting February 27th, I’ll have ten weeks to raise as much money as I can. Each dollar raised counts as one vote.

Along with collecting donations, I’ll be having many fundraising events along the way, including the live and silent auctions during the Grand Finale Gala, which will be held on May 10th. All the money raised supports blood cancer research, education, and patient services.

I have always loved being involved in and giving back to my community, which offers so many great causes to support. So why The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society? I haven’t been personally impacted by blood cancers but have had numerous family members stricken with other types of cancer and have experienced its impacts firsthand. It’s time to find a cure.

Blood cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths. However, because of groups like The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, survival rates, awareness, and support of blood cancer patients are increasing. I am incredibly excited to continue to support the fight against blood cancers and hope that you will join me.

Please visit our Facebook page at Bethany: LLS Woman of the Year Candidate 2014 for the latest on our events.

It seems we oftentimes forget that cancer is a word, not a sentence. I am so honored to be part of the Woman of the Year campaign to support blood cancer patients and survivors, including the Boy & Girl of the Year. After all, kids can’t fight cancer alone, but, together, we can all make strides to fight back.

We are sorry donations are no longer being accepted for this participant for this event.
