Many of us have experienced the pain and heartbreak of seeing a loved one suffer from cancer. Within my close-knit family, cancer is something we have faced one too many times. Hearing the words “You have cancer” come from a doctor’s lips is life-changing. Having to hear it more than once is heartbreaking. My family has heard “You have lung cancer”, “You have prostate cancer”, “You have testicular cancer”, “You have esophageal cancer”, “You have breast cancer”, “You have thyroid cancer” and finally “You have Leukemia”. When my family members were diagnosed with these cancers, I witnessed the trying hardships, but I also discovered an extraordinary sense of hope and resilience.
Inspired by all my cancer-fighting family members and their remarkable courage, strength and resolve, I decided to embark on a journey and became a staunch supporter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), an organization that is leading the forefront of cancer research. In the last decade, almost half of the new cancer-fighting drugs approved by the FDA were initially brought to market to treat blood cancers. Many of these therapies that were developed through LLS-funded research are now being tested for patients with many other cancers, including breast, prostate, ovarian and lung cancers. LLS is making sure that my family members win their battles with all types of cancer, and I truly believe that LLS will be the organization that ultimately finds a cure for this terrible disease.
Because of my past support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, I have been nominated to participate in their 2014 "Man & Woman of the Year"(MWOY) fundraising campaign. MWOY consists of candidates from cities across America raising money in an intense, 10-week period that begins on March 22nd and ends on May 31st.
I’ve created Team “Never Give Up”, which is my family’s motto, and I am writing today to invite you to join my team by making a donation to fund critical blood cancer research, provide meaningful patient services and bring us one step closer to a cure. Our team’s goal is to raise at least $100,000 for LLS within that 10-week period.
I would love for you to help me so my family and your family never have to hear the words
“You Have Cancer” again.
I deeply appreciate your time and consideration, and I hope that you will join me in this mission to help save lives.
The Man & Woman of the Year campaign has concluded and the winners have been announced. However, we deeply appreciate your ongoing donation and support of LLS’s mission. To make an incredible impact not someday, but today click on the donate button.
