I became forever connected to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) when my dad was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocitic Leukemia in 1999. The doctors told him he had 5 years to live and they were astonishingly accurate. I witnessed first hand the destruction that this disease and its treatment brings upon the human body.
When my sister, Susan, was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer late last summer, my "forever connection" to this organization, which leads the fight to cure cancer and improve the quality of life of patients and their families, became even tighter.
Why should you support LLS?
There is roughly a 40% chance that you will develop some form of cancer in your lifetime. In fact, every three minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer; even more heartbreaking, leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children under the age of 20.
Half of the new cancer-fighting drugs approved by the F.D.A in the past 10 years had funding from LLS.
Specificially, some of the most widely used cancer drugs today, Gleevec, Velcade, and Rituxin were funded by LLS. But more generally, the most common treatments for all cancers, chemotherapy and radiation were initially developed to fight blood cancers.
And 80% of the funds raised during this campaign will go directly towards research and services related to blood cancers
I know we are going to find a cure for cancer - what I don't know is how long it's going to take or how many more of my loved ones or my friend's loved ones are going to die in the process. What I can promise you is that I'm going to keep fighting to bring that cure closer/sooner and I know that working all together we'll have a better shot.
Donate today and join the team that makes it happen.
Please visit my Web site often and tell friends who would also like to donate!
Thank you again for your generosity and for helping to make this generation the last that has to live without a cure,
