I am of the fewer than 5% of those diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease before the age of 20. In fact, I was diagnosed at the age of 10!  The statistics of how many patients are diagnosed with Crohn’s that young aren’t even measurable.

What does this have to do with Leukemia and Lymphoma?

My personal struggles have made me want to give back to those suffering with blood cancers.  And thus, my mission through my campaign is to alleviate the suffering of children with cancer.

Many people know that leukemia is the most common cancer in children, adolescents and young adults younger than 20 years old. Lymphoma is the third most common cancer in children, adolescents and young adults younger than 20 years old!

Imagine not having control of your life before it even begins.

It was 1991 when I was diagnosed with my childhood illness after months of testing. Knowledge of the matter was still scarce.. I remember finding limited information about Crohn’s disease then. What I got out of the doctors was not much more in comparison.

Having information at your fingertips is essential. Have a support system through LLS is also extremely beneficial to patients and families.

Luckily, due to hard work of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, innumerous resources and information for patients, families and caregivers is available.  Support systems are in place and LLS can help families create them. And, most importantly, research is underway to help find cures for these diseases.

So why LLS? ?

I turned my energy to help LLS and merged my personal and professional communities together to help the children who find themselves in situations similar to the one I lived through. I didn’t have this support as a child. My parents were all I had growing up with these challenges. At times it seemed they were more disabled by my disease than I was and they could have used the support systems that the LLS provides.

For only 10 weeks, starting March 15th, 2016 and culminating on June 2nd, 2016 I am dedicating my time to raise as much money as possible for the LLS to find a cure for Leukemia and Lymphoma.

The hope is that one day those affected by blood cancers giving back to a charity to pay it forward.

Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign.
