Thank you for your support!
To be perfectly honest, winning the title of Man of the Year does not really interest me (I am probably not even Man of the Year in my own house!). What is of vital significance to me is helping to raise a substantial amount of money to find a cure for blood cancers, which is why my campaign team members and I have set a goal of raising $100,000 by May 16th, 2013.
For those who do not already know, my sister-in-law Brionne Clary (pictured above) tragically passed away from leukemia back in 2000. By all accounts Brionne fought the good fight and left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her in her 20 years of life. Her passing occurred a few years before I met my wife, and in the years since I have been trying to find ways to connect with and honor the sister-in-law I never met. In the past I have run in fundraising half-marathons in Brionne’s honor, but have wanted to do more. This Campaign is the sort of “more” that I feel Brionne is calling me to do.
Very recently, another jolt of the nastiness of blood cancers reared its ugly head. A good friend Jamie Whetzel suffered an incredible loss with the sudden passing of his dad, Jim to complications from lymphoma. Just this past December, Jim was sitting at the family Christmas table in remission and enjoying the holidays with his family. Just a week later, with little notice, Jim unexpectedly passed away due to the sudden onset of complications from this cruel disease.
I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. NO FAMILY SHOULD HAVE TO SUFFER THE PAIN AND DEVASTATION THE CLARY AND WHETZEL FAMILIES HAVE ENDURED.
With your help, I can reach my goal for which I receive the privilege of personally naming a research grant. It is my intent to name that research grant the “Brionne Shawn Clary and James Garvin Whetzel Research Grant”. I humbly ask you to help me in celebrating and honoring the lives of Brionne and Jim, and the countless others that have battled blood cancer. Please join me in continuing their fight by making a donation to this campaign! We are so close to finding a cure!
