I have been given the opportunity of a lifetime to help others! Each year, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its Man & Woman of the Year fundraising campaign, and I was honored to join this year’s efforts as the 2017 Man of the Year candidate for Team Cancer Crushers! I am writing today to ask for your support of LLS’s mission in its efforts to find cures for blood cancers and to assist patients and families as they battle cancer.
Our goal is to raise $72,000.00; one dollar for every Californian battling blood cancer. This will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission to find cures and to ensure patients access to the treatments they need. If we raise $50,000.00 by June 17, 2017, we can link our team name, Team Cancer Crushers, to an LLS funded research portfolio this year to honor our efforts!
As recently as two years ago, my good friend Susie Ross was diagnosed with Leukemia. Susie is a fighter and no stranger to adversity, having overcome many obstacles throughout her life. A couple of years ago, she was unable to get over a nagging cough and had been feeling terrible for two months straight. So on January 12th of 2015, her son Zach, made her promise to go and see a doctor that day, which she relented, but ultimately went. However, while in triage at the urgent care she experienced severe shortness of breath and the clinic had no choice but to call an ambulance and rush her to the hospital where after 36 hours in the ER, she was finally diagnosed with double lung Pneumonia. She was then admitted and after two weeks in hospital, numerous blood tests, a lung biopsy to also rule out TB, and two painful bone marrow biopsies were taken, she was ultimately diagnosed with Hairy Cell Leukemia.
I’m happy to say that after five (5) two-hour chemotherapy treatments and three and a half weeks in the hospital, Susie is currently in remission. She told me she has a new appreciation for every day and the loved ones in her life. To not take life for granted and to love every birthday no matter the number, big or small.
I am honored to have Susie in my life and she is an inspiration!
I‘m thankful for the research and medical advancements that the LLS has funded. The work that LLS is doing is extraordinary…there are few organizations that I regard as highly as this one. LLS has invested over $1 billion in the best and brightest cancer research all over the world. Nearly 40% of anti cancer treatments were FDA approved for blood cancers with the help of LLS. Because of that, my team (Cancer Crushers) and I are working to create a campaign that will go down in history! But we need your help to make words like chemotherapy and Leukemia a thing of the past.
Please use this page to make an online donation, you will receive immediate confirmation by email. If you prefer to mail your donation using cash or a check, please make your check payable to: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and pring "Cancer Crushers" in the memo section.
Perhaps you ‘ve a connection to cancer or would just like to join my team…I’m recruiting folks who’re willing to reach out to others and ask them to donate and/or support, or individuals who are willing to host a fundraising event. Also, many companies have an employee matching gifts program that may be willing to match your donation. Would your company like to support a fundraiser or sponsorship? The more the merrier and the stronger impact we can make on this fight against cancer!
I thank you in advance for supporting this incredible need. I can’t fund the cure for cancer alone and appreciate your friendship and support.
PS When donating, if you wish to take advantage of any of these options, please state your preferences in the "comment" section.
