MAY 11, 2013:
Only 6 days left! I've been busy the last 2 weeks gathering some silent auction gifts and organizing a few other small fundraising events. On May 3rd and 4th we had "Veg Out Against Cancer" at Thyme Square tea and spice shop in Bellevue, Ky. We sold several small veggie plants grown from seeds in my home and garden todems created by by mom and dad. On May 9th we had "Mantra for Life Over Cancer" hosted at Mantra on the Hill in Mt. Adams. We received several donations at the door and Mantra on the Hill is generously donating 15% of proceeds from our food/drink sales back to the LLS. Dan Erdman generously donated his time and talents to provide musical mantras for the night. It was wonderful to see friends and family show up to support the fight against cancer. During the event several people wrote their personal mantras against cancer and for life on paper and slid them in the "Mantras for Life" bottle. I will be releasing the bottle in the sea on May 24th, so there is still time to get your mantra for those fighting cancer in the bottle! Send me a message and I'll write it down/put it in the bottle for you. Don't forget to get your Grand Finale tickets ASAP! We have lots of great silent auction items and I'm sure the LLS has a moving program in store for us at the Grand Finale event. It would be great to see lots of friends and family there. I want to make sure to especially thank my mom and dad for all their support over the last 9 weeks. There has never been a time they weren't there when I needed help. They have gone the extra mile on everything and helped out even more than I asked them to.
I also want to make sure to thank Lowes and Massage Envy for a donations, as well as my friends Julie, Todd, and Jason for donating silent auction items.
MARCH 26, 2013:
SAVE THE DATE!
We will be hosting a Happy Hour for a Cure at Mantra on the Hill on Thursday May 9th between 5-8pm. Mantra is located at 934 Hatch St., Cincinnati, OH 45202. Mantra is an Indian restaurant in Mt. Adams with a contemporary twist. They have lots of health conscious vegetarian dishes and a great drink menu. "'Mantra' is 'creating transformation' and Chef Yaj utilizes a mélange of herbs and spices used in traditional Indian dishes to consistently do just that. Rather than bowing to tradition, Mantra's menu reflects that creative vision with modern interpretations of recipes garnered from India's many unique and diverse regions. Savor the difference." The word mantra is defined as a sound, word or phrase with the purpose of creating positive change. We hope to create change for those with cancer throughout this whole 10 weeks. Come join us on May 9th for a mantra to create change in the lives impacted by cancer. What better time to celebrate than the Thursday after the Flying Pig Marathon. Celebrate your hard work and accomplishments over food and drinks with friends. Celebrate life and share your marathon mantras. There will be a $5 suggested donation at the door, with some great door prizes and Mantra will be generously donating 15% of food/drink proceeds back to The LLS. Adam Lavigne and Pete DeNuzio will be providing live acoustic mantras, hopefully on the patio if the weather cooperates! Join us in Mt. Adams on May 9th to share in the mantra for the future of cancer research and treatment. Let's make a transformation for those with cancer.

Two weeks into the campaign with eight weeks left!
Did you know that approximately every 4 minutes one person in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer? And "approximately every 10 minutes, someone in the US dies from a blood cancer. This statistic represents nearly 145 people each day or more than six people every hour."

Cancer doesn't discriminate. Cancer impacts children, adults, elderly, males and females. Cancer visits all countries across our world and impacts our communities, friends, family and sometimes our own lives. We can try to live as healthy as possible to prevent many forms of cancer from invading our cells, but sometimes cancer attacks regardless. The LLS is an organization that continues to advocate for cancer patients and families and continues to search for methods of prevention and treatment.
Please consider a donating to this great organization and sharing this donationt website with others. If you are interested in contribution through sponsorship or silent auction item donations please e-mail me at email@example.com or leave a comment on this page. Thank you so much to those of you who have already contributed through your online donations, participation in Hoops for a Cure and auction item donations. Thanks to the campaign committee members for all of their continued hard work. On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere we thank you for your support!
We would also like to thank the following community partners who are contributing to our campaign against cancer:

MARCH 8, 2013:
When I first joined LLS Team in Training (TNT) 5 years ago, I was nervous both about my first marathon and raising the funds. Once I learned the stories of the people battling cancer, some of whom were running right beside me, I realized my challenges were nothing compared to theirs. I met lifetime friends that first year and continue to meet new friends through my involvement with the LLS. My TNT Hero, the man who was battling Lymphoma and who inspired me to complete my very first marathon in 2008 with Team in Training, is now competing in this year’s Man of the Year to celebrate his 16th year of being cancer free!
As the years have gone by, I have also met several other people, both in my personal and professional roles as an OT, whose lives have been impacted by cancer. I have been inspired by and raced alongside people who have overcome cancer as well as other illnesses and injuries. My grandma, grandpa, two great uncles and a great aunt all died of cancer. My great grandma had Leukemia at the end of her life. Currently, a close family friend is battling and has been battling breast cancer for the past few years; however she continues to fight for life and give to others. My mom has lived with a debilitating condition for the majority of my life; however she continues to live to her fullest and give to others. Every month for the past few years my mom has prepared special meals made of natural food full of nutrients and love for our friend with cancer. This year for Christmas, we found out the cancer was in remission. They both give to each other, they don’t give up or give in to disease and they constantly try to improve their own and others quality of lives. Hope and support from others works. The LLS improves the quality of life for those with and without cancer. The LLS brings people together and encourages continuous hope.
While I'm raising as many dollars as I can this spring, I'll also be raising my swim, bike, run mileage. This summer I'll complete the Louisville Ironman in honor of every cancer survivor and fighter out there. They will inspire me to not give up and fight with all my might...and to have faith, hope, courage and discipline...that ANYTHING is possible. To follow my fundraising and training journey, learn about what inspires myself and others in overcoming challenges, learn more about cancer research, treatments and resources...while being reminded of what's really great in our world...visit my blog at: http://strawberryspike.blogspot.com/
Thanks to your support, our efforts, will help fund the therapies and treatments and help save lives today.
LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate DOUBLING and TRIPLING; in some cases, the survival rate has even QUADRUPLED!!
And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. They're even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. LLS funded drugs like Gleevec, Sprycel, Arinza, Tasigna and Zolinza are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.
We really are changing the face of blood cancer!
Please join me in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. Every dollar I raise counts as one vote and the candidate who gets the most votes /raises the most money is named the Man or Woman of the Year.
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.
Please visit my Web site often and bring friends who would also like to donate!
On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support! For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org
