I have been selected by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) as a candidate for “Woman of the Year.” Having worked on several campaigns in the last few years, I feel truly honored to compete for this prestigious title in honor of Dylan Conboy, a 5 year old from Slingerlands, and Rachel Murray, a 17 year old from Troy who both recently completed treatment respectively for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
No one wants to see their families, children, friends, peers and colleagues battling cancer, yet it seems to touch us all in one way or another. One of my dearest friends battled Leukemia as a child, at a time when survival rates were very low. I am so very thankful to have had shared countless memories, our college graduations, our weddings, baby showers, watching our children grow…for having a beautiful friendship for more than 25 years. As a parent I can’t imagine how devastating and difficult it would be for my child & family to face that. I know that her family struggled tremendously back then, but it was with the help of organizations like LLS that she was able to get the treatments and services for her to fight this disease. LLS continually works to raise the funds needed to provide services for individuals diagnosed with cancer. It is because of businesses and community members like you that LLS has been able to make steady and significant progress towards a cure.
Allocations from LLS toward research, education, advocacy and patient service has truly begun to transform how to diagnose and treat blood cancers. This is most apparent in the significant change in childhood leukemia survival from a rate of 3% in 1963 to a rate of over 86% today. Truly a transformation in life!
From March 1th to May 10th I ask that you join me in my mission to support LLS through a series of extraordinary culinary events. We will “Eat, Drink, Be Merry and Do Good” with every dollar raised during this time counting as one vote for my campaign.
I would be honored to have your vote for the 2013 LLS Woman of the Year. Please click on the donationbutton onthe right side of the page to cast your vote.
