Welcome to my MWOY Fundraising Page

Howdy!

Apr 19, 2013

Dear Friends & Family,

TODAY is the FINAL day of my fundraising efforts with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Despite the success of "ROCK EM SOCK EM",

(see www.mwoy.org/pages/ut/slc13/rsockem for great pics), the private fundraiser in Deer Valley, and the benefit luncheon at Texas Roadhouse - Sandy yesterday, in my mind I am still behind and far short of my goal. So this is late in the 4th quarter. the 18th hole. the home stretch. approaching the finish line. and I need ya.

I've received donations from single mothers to millionaires. It doesn't matter if its $5 or $5000, every little bit means a lot and its 100% tax deductible. Over the years, I've given selflessly to many. Be it autographs, tickets, financial benefits or other, much has been provided to make things easier on everyone else and just provide a smile. Now I'm asking for a payback. I need ya.

Unlike other cancers, leukemia and lymphoma don't have known causes or contributing factors. Hence preventative measures are unknown and the only hope is a cure. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has donated millions to research causes, find better treatments and also fund patients directly to assist with their care. So I need ya.

The title "Man of the Year" doesn't matter to me. But winning does. I believe that we are here for a number of reasons - one being we have a duty to maximize our potential in all our endeavors. Now I'm calling on you my friends and family to help me in my endeavor versus cancer to maximize the potential. So my friends - I don't how to say it, but in simple humility - I need ya.

ALSO, WE HAVE JUST SECURED NASHVILLE RECORDING GROUP DUE WEST TO PERFORM AT THE GRAND FINALE GALA!!! PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS BY CLICKING ON THE "ATTEND THE GRAND FINALE" BUTTON TO THE RIGHT!!!!

Thanks to your support, our efforts will help fund the therapies and treatments that help save lives today. Despite our views of politics, religion and sports affiliations, we can all agree on one thing – Cancer sucks. Our lives are touched everyday with the tragic effects of cancer. It has taken the lives of numerous people I love including my grandparents, my mother in law and numerous others. Leukemia (“blood cancer”) deeply altered the course of my life when it took the life of my grandfather “Red” Mills. The last time I saw him I was a 20 year olf college student. My Pepa couldn't speak due to the illness. At the doctors request, I was asked to come to donate life saving blood and bone marrow. I was his last hope. He wrote on a piece of paper that my 20 year old blood would give him 20 more years. I left to begin the procedure only to learn my numbers weren't high enough to contribute. And I never saw my grandfather again. I let down many people. Today would have been his birthday. So now, I need ya.

Today cancer has struck again - this time with my niece. Shadoh Campbell continues her battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma. A single mother and full time college student, her courage and strength have helped her in the fight against cancer once before as she pummeled it into submission. This time we are encouraged at the upcoming victory when she wins the war and is cancer free. Feel free to join in on her journey throught the following facebook page:

With that in mind, I have teamed up with the Utah chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society during their annual fundraising drive. Many of you know of my competitive spirit. I have thus agreed to engage in a 10 week “spirited competition” by raising funds for blood cancer research. I am in the final days of the competition and can certainly use your help. I am competing in honor of Shadoh and local Utah children who are battling blood cancer. The funds will go directly to the national Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org).

Some of the benefits of the funds we will raise together are used for:

- lifesaving blood cancer research

- financial assistance to cover patient expenses for transportation, medication and testing

- free educational materials and events for patients and their families

- local programs such as Family Support Groups and First Connection, a peer-to-peer counseling program

- Comprehensive, personalized assistance through the LLS Information Resource Center.

LLS's continued advancements over the years, are responsible for the blood cancer survival rate doubling and tripling; in some cases, the survival rate has even quadrupled.

And many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers. They're even being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. LLS funded drugs like Gleevec, Sprycel, Arinza, Tasigna and Zolinza are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.

We really are changing the face of cancer!

All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. They'll not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.

Please visit my Web site often and bring friends who would also like to donate! I am fortunate to have received the support of several organizations. With this support I will be holding weekly drawings. Many of you may be interested in the items including some autographs from my personal collection as well as tickets to various events. I will announce the winners on Sundays and Wednesdays.
