Boy & Girl of the Year

Introducing the Virginia Chapter's 2012 Boy & Girl of the Year

The Boy & Girl of the Year are local youth battling blood cancers who serve as motivation and inspiration to Man & Woman of the Year candidates in their competition to raise funds and win the titles. This year, we are pleased to introduce our Boy & Girl of the Year, Wyatt and Eleanor, as our local heroes.

Boy of the Year

Wyatt
Wyatt
Wyatt was diagnosed with high risk T-cell ALL, (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) just one month prior to his third birthday on February 15, 2010. He has undergone intensive treatment including high dose chemotherapy, radiation, spinal taps, and a lot of medicine that made him feel very sick. He is now in the maintenance phase of treatment and has to take a lot of pills as well as visit the clinic for IV chemo and spinal taps. While in the hospital, he missed playing with his older brother, Jackson, and older sister, Ava. Being careful of germs and not being able to play with his friends and siblings sometimes makes him sad. Wyatt loves sports and is happy to be back in preschool now. Wyatt will conclude his treatment on June 14, 2013.

Girl of the Year

Eleanor
Eleanor

Eleanor was diagnosed at two and a half with Pre-B Cell ALL (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia) on August 10, 2010.  She has undergone six months of intensive treatment including high dose chemotherapy, steroids and spinal taps and is now in the maintenance phase of her treatment. She takes daily, weekly and monthly oral medicine and antibiotics every weekend as well as IV chemo monthly. The medicine sometimes makes her feel sick, but she doesn't let it slow her down. She is a big sister to her baby brother, Mark, and loves to cook, bake, dance and dress up like a princess. Eleanor will conclude her treatment on October 15, 2012.
